Branson's tourism economy means a lot of foot traffic — which is great for business, but also means your security needs to be solid. Here are five things we recommend to every commercial client.
1. Rekey After Every Employee Departure
This is the most commonly skipped security step. When an employee leaves — especially under difficult circumstances — you should rekey the locks they had access to immediately. It's inexpensive and takes less than an hour. The alternative is hoping they don't use their key.
2. Install a Master Key System
If you have multiple employees who need different levels of access, a master key system is far more practical than managing dozens of individual keys. A properly designed system lets you control exactly who can access what — and a single master key gives management access to everything.
3. Upgrade to Grade 1 Commercial Hardware
Builder-grade locks are not appropriate for commercial use. Grade 1 commercial deadbolts and lever sets are significantly more resistant to forced entry, picking, and wear. The upfront cost is higher, but they last longer and provide much better protection.
4. Consider Access Control for High-Traffic Areas
Keypad or card-reader access control systems eliminate the key management problem entirely. You can add and remove access codes or cards instantly, see who accessed what and when, and never worry about lost keys. For businesses with multiple employees or high turnover, the ROI is clear.
5. Don't Neglect the Back Door
Most break-ins happen through secondary entrances — back doors, side doors, and loading docks — that don't get the same security attention as the front entrance. Make sure every exterior door has a quality deadbolt and a reinforced strike plate.
